What Is Lecithin Wax (Phosphatidylcholine)?
Lecithin Wax (Phosphatidylcholine) is yellow to brown semi-solid or lump. And it's a specific form of lecithin. It appears as a waxy solid at room temperature. This lecithin is mainly composed of phospholipid components such as phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), and phosphatidylinositol (PI). It is usually obtained by extraction from soybean oil, sunflower oil, or animal fats. Due to its unique physical and chemical properties, waxy lecithin has a wide range of applications in several fields. soybean waxy lecithin, sunflower waxy lecithin and egg yolk waxy lecithin from Guanjie Biotech.

Characteristics of Waxy Lecithin
1. Physical form
Wax lecithin presents a solid waxy structure at room temperature and has a high melting point, usually between 40℃ and 60℃. This form makes waxy lecithin more suitable for applications requiring high temperatures or special solid forms.
2. High stability
Lecithin Wax (Phosphatidylcholine) has a higher oxidative stability than liquid or powdered lecithin. This is due to the fact that in its solid state it has a smaller contact area with air, thus reducing the possibility of oxidative degradation. Its high melting point also allows it to show better stability in certain environments with large temperature fluctuations.
3. Solubility
Lecithin Waxy has good solubility in fats and oils but poor solubility in water. Therefore, it is more suitable for use in oily systems or products that require lipid binding.
Applications
1. Food industry
Waxy bulk lecithin is often used as an emulsifier, stabiliser and release control agent in the food industry. Due to its good emulsification and thermal stability, it is often added to chocolate, bakery products and confectionery to improve the taste and texture of the products and to extend the shelf life. It is also used in the preparation of fat replacers to help reduce the fat content in food products while maintaining the taste.
2. Cosmetics and personal care products
In cosmetics, bulk lecithin acts as a natural emulsifier and humectant to help stabilise products such as lotions, creams and lipsticks. Its waxy form provides a silky texture to formulations while helping to prolong the moisturising effect of products. The presence of bulk lecithin also enhances the penetration of active ingredients in skin care products, making them more easily absorbed by the skin.
3. Pharmaceutical industry
Waxy Phosphatidylcholine is used as a slow-release agent and carrier in pharmaceutical preparations. Due to its good solubility and high stability in oily systems, it can be used to prepare drug carriers such as microspheres and liposomes, which help to improve the bioavailability of drugs. In addition, Lecithin Wax (Phosphatidylcholine) plays a role in improving drug stability and prolonging efficacy in oral and topical drugs.
4. Industrial lubricants
The lubricating properties of Phosphatidylcholine waxy enable it to be used as a lubricant and rust inhibitor in certain industrial applications. For example, in metal working and machinery lubrication, waxed lecithin can effectively reduce friction, lower mechanical wear and prolong the service life of equipment.
Advantages
1. Natural origin, environmentally friendly and healthy
Lecithin usually derived from natural vegetable oils, is an environmentally friendly, non-toxic natural emulsifier. It is free of synthetic chemicals and meets modern consumer demand for green and natural ingredients.
2. Multi-functionality
Lecithin has excellent emulsifying, lubricating and moisturising properties and works well in different areas. Therefore, it is not only suitable for food and cosmetic fields, but also can be widely used in pharmaceutical and industrial applications.
3. High temperature stability
Due to its high melting point, Lecithin Wax (Phosphatidylcholine) is able to remain stable and not easily degraded in applications that require heat processing. This gives it a significant advantage in many thermal processes, such as baked goods and high-temperature preparations.
Precautions for use
1. Storage conditions
It needs to be stored in a dry, light-proof environment to prevent moisture or oxidative deterioration. It is usually recommended to store it in airtight containers at room temperature to ensure its stable quality.
2. Formulation compatibility
When using Lecithin Wax (Phosphatidylcholine) in a formulation, attention needs to be paid to its compatibility with other ingredients. Especially in emulsified systems. Its compatibility with different fats and oils may affect the stability of the formulation. Therefore it is recommended to carry out small sample tests to ensure the effectiveness of the final product.
